South African drivers need to be prepared for the new Administrative Adjudication of Road Traffic Offences Act.
Announced by the minister of transport, Fikile Mbalula, this act will be implemented in June 2020 with a new zero tolerance approach to drunk driving. Drivers can be expected to not intake alcohol at all when going behind the wheel.
Currently, drivers are allowed to intake alcohol before driving if they stay within the limit of alcohol permitted by law. This will not be allowed as the ministry of transport will be intolerant to drinking and driving.
